A very, very cold day up in the Gallatin during a fierce snowstorm is always an adventure – and sometimes produces some interesting images. This shot was captured after waiting for the snow to break and light to improve just slightly. Typically I hate to divide pictures in “half” – but it works here. The light was extremely flat and grey, but with the focus on the “1935” on the bridge and the color of the ice-ridden Gallatin flowing off down-canyon, the image works. I love the smear of a few snowflakes across the picture – they add motion, movement, and visual interest.
Congratulations to all who purchased Fire Girl images last night at the Big Sky Christmas Stroll artist’s market. I greatly enjoyed meeting everyone and look forward to seeing you next year – if not before!
