Sunset in the Big Sky

by Editor on February 17, 2010

Most of Montana – and the entire northern tier of the world – is still yearning for long summer days and warm sunshine.  February always seems like the longest month of all; we’re not through with winter’s short, cloudy days and the early greening of spring still seems to be far off.

I took this image this past summer.  I had spent the afternoon and early part of the evening up in the mountains hunting for some great pictures, but ironically it was only when I came down out of the canyon that I found the images I was seeking.  Crawling down into a ditch and looking up to capture the line of the old cattle fence and the tall, vibrant grass that grew nearby, I was greeted by a unique, yet entirely “Montanan” view.  The green of the grass, fading in the waning light, the color along the horizon and the purples in the sky capture the Montana summer sunset.
