Passion and Work

Passion.  Work.

To most people, these two words are incongruous.

For a few, one word requires the other.

Photography – a.k.a. work for me – requires passion.  When I am chasing a story I feel a passion for, something that the rest of the world needs to see, the photographs flow.  I get in the zone and passion takes the work to a whole different level.

Those are the moments when I realize that this is really what I’m meant to be doing, what I was made for.

And then, of course, there are the moments where there is work to be done and passion is mysteriously absent.  It’s gone on vacation and left me behind with an assignment to be fulfilled.

Some photographers infuse passion into their work.  Photography matters to them; it’s a form of expression.  Passion translates into importance – if not to others, then to oneself.

No matter what you do today, take a few moments to chase your passion.  It doesn’t have to be a big grand thing, a great undertaking.  Like to write?  Pen down a few pages after work.  Photograph?  Take a walk around the block and see what you find – or what finds you.

Passion is just as important in work as it is in life.  Pursue your passion – be bold.

It makes life worthwhile.
