Storytelling in the Orvis Fly Fishing Catalog

Orvis_Kinetic_Loop Orvis’ summer fishing catalog is hitting homes and stores this coming week (or maybe some have already landed.) Amidst the rods and reels and techie goodness, do me a favor and read the three storytelling pieces in the catalog. This was quite literally my first work for Orvis (started working on one of them before I officially started, actually) and it’s fun to see it some to fruition.

https://manabernardes.com/2024/lea058wik1l At least the catalog lead time isn’t so different from the magazine lead times I am used to.  Work like mad four to six months before the things hits the press, then kiss it goodbye for a while.  It almost makes a nice surprise when you finally see the work on paper stock!

http://www.wowogallery.com/c78bc6q One story features Simon Perkin’s Kinetic Loop video, talking about the parallels between fly fishing in the past and the present. Check out the trailer for the vid if you haven’t. The second focuses on female angler Kami Swingle, and is a fun introduction to the new women’s Trout Bum clothing line. The last is a tribute to warm water fishing.  This was a short-notice change as another editorial piece had to be pulled, and the turnaround time on this was minimal.  Pretty happy with how it turned out, though.

I’m ready to chase some carp and bass this summer!

Let me know what you think about these, folks.  Always open to thoughts and suggestions.Orvis Warmwater Story
