Equestrian athletes tend to get put by the wayside when we think of sports. But all it takes is for me to glance at a picture of one of the greats, such as Beezie Madden riding her mount Danny Boy, to make me realize what incredible athletes equestrians and their horses are.
It takes courage to leap over something with the dimensions of a cabin. Athletes like Beezie and Danny Boy do it for a living. It’s very quiet when horses make the jumping effort… something few people realize. All spectators can hear is the pounding of the horse’s hooves and – if they listen very carefully – the hitch of the horse’s breath as it launches over the fence.
