Spring is Showing in Yellowstone

by Editor on March 15, 2010

I took a planning drive yesterday with some friends.  Our plans had been to go over the hill to Livingston and possibly on down the Paradise Valley a bit but, as they say, the best-laid plans of mice and men…

We ended up in the Lamar Valley of Yellowstone.  Temperatures in the Park peaked at near fifty degrees, the sun was shining, and the few clouds that were present had a decidedly spring like fluffiness.  Bison herds were lying on the southern slopes, sunning and looking remarkably content.  A few bulls were roughhousing, stirring up a bit of dust that showed how dry the Park is for this time of year.  Rumor has it that the road from West Yellowstone to Old Faithful is clear already, but it sounds like the Park Service will hold to the official 16 April opening date.
