Libya Conflict Claims Two Western Journalists

In what has been called by many the most costly conflict for journalists in this century, the action in Libyan has claimed the lives of two Western journalists.  Tim Hetheringon, who was nominated for his work in 2010 on the war documentary ‘Restrepo’, and  Chris Hondros, a Getty photographer based out of New York, were killed by mortar fire (some reports say a rocker propelled grenade) in Mistrata, Libya yesterday.

Two other photographers, Michael Christopher Brown and Guy Martin, were seriously wounded and remain in uncertain condition.

Outside Online has a piece up this morning about Hetherington; a few weeks ago one of their writers interviewed Hetherington about photography, war, and life.  The questions and Hetherington’s thoughtful, honest answers are worth your time and drive home the reminder of what an incredible man the world of journalism has lost.

Godspeed, gentlemen.
