Urban shooters, take note. Timbuk2, famed for their bombproof messenger bags, has just released a camera bag!
The Snoop Camera Messenger bag comes in four colors and the medium size looks like it will fit a decent professional kit. Made out of the company’s aptly named ballistic fabric, the bag features a fully padded, modular interior that is removable for those days you just need the bag for “normal” use. Straps on the bottom allow you to strap on a small tripod and the shoulder strap comes with a thick, comfy pad.
The bag’s low key looks are perfect for shooting in urban, crowded situations when you don’t want to draw additional attention to your kit. I often will “rough up” my bags before an urban shoot; get it dirty, stick a little duct tape here and there. It makes for a much lower profile and doesn’t scream “come take me!”. (Although this didn’t do much good earlier this year at SXSW!) This bag from Timbuk2 looks like a good way to keep a professional look as well as a low profile.
For those more inclined to do-it-yourself projects, here’s a link to creating your own Timbuk2 camera bag with an existing bag using Domke (or another other brand) modular padding. Hmmm. There’s a high possibility I can piece something together with modulars from the bags I have lying around and my ten-year-old Timbuk2. I’ll let you know how this works – it could be a perfect bag for a new assignment in Austin I just landed.
