I rarely shoot in black and white, but when I do it seems to open up so many possibilities. Texture and depth shine through so much more than in color; shades tell stories that would be lost in a color image.
This image was shot on the Texas coast; these dolphins were playing in the channel at daybreak, following the freighters out and then messing around until the next ship came through. I waited for over an hour to get reasonable light and wanting the dolphins “stacked” as it were. The morning mist was just wearing off and combined with a high aperture it gives the image a nice “fuzzy” look. The seagull was a happy bonus.
