Sorry for the radio silence, as it were. I spent the weekend out on the Delaware River, competing at the Friends of the Upper Delaware River’s annual One Bug Fly Fishing Tournament. Modeled after the Jackson Hole One Fly, we fished both Saturday and Sunday, with only one fly allowed per day.
Orvis fielded a men’s team and a women’s team; four of us departed Vermont Friday after work and headed west to the New York / Pennsylvania border, ready to roll. Fishing was tough; it was cold, rainy and windy, with rather inactive fish. I managed to bring this guy in on a streamer on Sunday, and, somehow, take home the Biggest Fish Award for Orvis.
Weird to have a rod in hand and not only the camera.
It’s always an adventure exploring new territory and new water, and it was a blast to be part of the Orvis crew for the event.
Read more about the trip on the Orvis blog here (I wrote it but didn’t title it… definitely not to the mastery level yet!), or look for a full report later this week on Chi Wulff!

The upper Delaware where I first fished big water for trout while canoeing with BSA Troop 236 from Shillington, PA – good memories. Then I got older and headed west – Middle Fork of the Flathead, Snake River…..
Claude, I did the opposite. Grew up fishing the South Fork of the Snake and the great rivers of the West. Now I find myself out here. It’s a funny old world!
Enjoy the West… I miss it.
Looks like it was a productive weekend. Glad you are enjoying some of our great rivers on the east coast!! Keep up the good work!
Productive indeed, Ray! That’s how I like to roll. Fun to explore a little bit out here; very anxious to check out more water.
Hope you’re well and enjoying the springtime!
