Early Spring in Yellowstone

by Editor on April 19, 2010

Yellowstone is finally open for the spring (well, a few roads are at least).  I’ve been fighting a whopper of a flu for the past week and – nausea be damned – I needed to get out.  Badly.

The Park still looks pretty brown, although a surprising amount of snow has melted and the barest hint of green is appearing on the near hills.  Temperatures reached as high as 50F in the morning – a sure sign that the remaining snow will not be around for too much longer!

Bison, elk, and coyotes were all out enjoying the sunshine and mud.  This time of year Yellowstone is gloriously uncrowded – a nice break before the onslaught of summer tourists arrives.  If the weather continues to stay warm and sunny things should green up nicely within the next few weeks and hopefully we’ll start seeing some baby animals out and about!

All National Park are offering free admission this week (through 25 April) in honor of National Parks Week.  Take advantage of the free admission, especially if you don’t have a year pass!
