click here Typically I like to let the colors I shoot stand on their own. Properly shot images should be rich and full of interesting color. But sometimes it can be fun to get a little creative. I recently shot a feature essay for Big Sky Journal on the Montana Shakespeare in the Parks troupe where I desaturated all of the images and only allowed a bit of color to show through. The effect was to draw the eye more to the objects in the frame – actors, set pieces, what have you – than allow the colorful costumes to have all the attention.

Oversaturating the colors, creating an almost “comic book” effect, adds life and depth to buildings and still life. One starts to wonder – was the sky really that blue? Was that building really painted in that shade? As I said on Monday, “city” photography is still something I am very new to and this is a way to add my spin on it.
