New Fire Girl HQ

by Editor on July 18, 2010

I’ve finally relocated to at least semi-permanent digs and have just about finished unpacking.  After living out of a duffel for two-plus months it’s fun to unearth some of my household goods and actually feel a bit at home.  Blog posting may be a bit scattered this week as the date of my internet connection is still a little iffy (sitting in an internet café at the moment!) but rest assured I’ll still be here, camera in hand.

The new HQ is a little one-bedroom unit out in the country not far from San Marcos.  An open field, currently overrun with five-and –six-foot tall weeds is across from me and a great big pecan tree shades the house.

I relaxed on the back deck last night, listening to cicadas and who knows what else buzz and chirp in the fading evening light.  I can safely affirm that the south-central Texas ecosystem – at least the flying, biting part of it – is alive and well.  After a small battle with some rather colorful spiders about who really controlled the porch, I sat back and studied the trees.  After a moment something out of place caught my eye.  It was this Monarch butterfly.  Another moment’s searching found several more Monarchs, crawling all over the tree and fluttering their wings.

Now that’s the kind of neighbor I like.
