Dover Photography Contest Winner!

by Fire Girl Jess on November 29, 2010

I was pleasantly surprised when I went to the site for the 2010 Dover Saddlery photography contest and saw that the grand-prize-winning picture looked familiar.  Life has been crazy since I entered the contest in September and I had completely forgotten I’d even entered… seeing this really made my day.

This was taken during the 2009 Spruce Meadows Masters Tournament in Calgary, Alberta.  After shooting the more traditional ringside shots I was drawn to the warm up ring.  (I can’t help it… I used to ride and know the real training goes on in the warmup.)  I could have stayed there for the entire tournament… I was an arm’s reach from the very best show jumping riders in the world.  Legends were looking into my lens and watching me as I shot pictures.  This shot – completely un-cropped, was one of the better ones of the show.  Horse and rider were taking a practice fence, nearly ready for their turn in the ring.  I love the line of the horse’s belly, his legs tucked tidily.  The swish of tail adds motion and movement.

Just spent another day in the Texas Renaissance Festival finishing up a story… came back with some solid images and good memories.  (Pics to come soon!)  I have slept about five hours in the last three days and am more than ready for some time in the sack.

But first… pictures.
