‘Renaissance’ is hardly the word most people associate with the state of Texas. Before this past fall it would indeed be one of the last words to come to mind when thinking about Texas.
The Texas Renaissance Festival changed that.
Long hot days filled with bagpipers, wild Celtic dancing, medieval food, and some of the funniest improvisational acts I’ve ever seen have changed my mind. I discovered some of the most amazing music I’ve ever heard (aka Tartanic, now the official road-tripping music of Fire Girl Photography) and made some fascinating new friends.
Check out the Fire Girl photo trail from the Texas Renaissance Festival. I shot creatively, hoping to separate my images from the hordes of pictures shot annually at this venue. It involved crawling in the dirt, climbing into trees, and spending lots of time talking to people before they were comfortable enough around me for a candid portrait.
But, hell, that’s just part of the fun and you just never know what you’re going to find.
Today is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. Fly the flag and take a moment to remember America’s servicemen, both from the past and those out there fighting at this moment. Thank you for all you do.
