Early Winter on the Madison

by Fire Girl Jess on December 14, 2010

Early winter hoarfrost on the banks of the Madison River in Yellowstone National Park.

Suddenly it is mid-December (where has the year gone?!) and we are wrapping up another year.  I am finding it hard to reconcile with the date this year.  Maybe it has something to do with the weather (saw 83 degrees two days ago), maybe it has something to do with the fact that I’ve been running around like mad channeling all my energy into planning and lining out stories for the coming year.

I had to remind myself today to take a moment to just pause and watch.  Taking a lunch break in the middle of a busy shopping center in the Suby is a far reach from my normal thinking place, the open spaces of the West.  I watched little songbirds eat from the plethora of bugs on the ground and tried to ignore the honks and yells of city life around me.

Not the banks of the Madison in Yellowstone.  Not by a long shot.

I have a surprise trip coming up at the end of this week; a oh-so-brief back foray up to the mountains.   I am packing the camera gear on the off chance that I’ll get some time to shoot some images.  Then back to Austin for Christmas.

Who knows what comes after that. I have no doubt it will be an adventure.
