Austin Fair & Rodeo

Justine Blazer at the RAM Trucks Battle of the Bands, Austin, Texas.

I made my way over to the Austin Fair and Rodeo yesterday.  Billed as the ‘Star of Texas’ rodeo, the event draws over 300,000 people each year.  I was hoping for some creative, lighthearted shooting after the events of last Thursday.

Despite dreary lighting and lack of any scenery, it proved to be a productive day.  I stumbled upon the Ram ‘Battle of the Bands’ finale, a playoff between Justine Blazer and The Natalie Turgeon Band.  I never envisioned myself shooting bands but the experience over the past week has been a good one.

The best thing about photography is that it pushes me to learn new things and to explore lives I never otherwise would.

Yesterday: got a front row seat (well, on the stairs!) to a PRCA rodeo.  Saw my first pig race.  Discovered two new bands.  Handled my first hog.  Saw my first real live fried Oreo (which I did not eat).

After a 300+ picture upload I am just beginning to sort through.  More images to be posted soon!

Did you get any pics of Natalie Turgeon and her band? They’re friends who might be interested in them.

Hi Mike, I did get some pics of Natalie and her band – they were fantastic! I’d be happy to send some over if they’d like to see them. I’ll shoot you an email as well.
