Big Sky Country

This is why they call it “Big Sky Country.”

The end of the Lamar Valley, looking towards Cooke City. Soda Butte is in the left foreground.

The Lamar Valley is ground central for the wolf population introduction.  The sweeping valley is home to the Lamar River and Soda Butte Creek, some of the least-trafficked fishing in Yellowstone National Park.  Due to the valley’s location off the “Grand Loop” of Yellowstone, the area receives much less traffic than the rest of the park.  It is a favorite hangout for locals, and is accessible year-round for those brave enough to face Yellowstone in the wintertime.
