Ice Capades on the Gallatin River

by Editor on November 17, 2009

Yesterday afternoon took me on a foray up the Gallatin Canyon.  The temperatures were bitter, the light was average, but a little creativity can salvage any photography setting.  Ice is rapidly forming on all of the mountain rivers; the Taylors Fork of the Gallatin was all but frozen over.  It’s always a pleasure to see the dark shades and blue-green tints of river ice.

Contorting and crawling around on some shelf ice produced some unique takes on the ice and water… forethought in my mind was that if I went in, the camera had to somehow stay out of the water!
