Life On the Road

by Editor on September 20, 2010

I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m happiest when on the road.  There’s always something new to photograph, new people to meet, fresh scenery to take in.  Stepping out of your comfort zone keeps you on your toes.  There’s a fantastic sense of living in the moment.

In the past week the team has averaged 11 hours in the car per day, with a trip total thus far of over 4800 miles.  We’ve slept in the truck three nights, been chased out three film sites by bears, and eaten a total of three meals in restaurants.  Consensus is that the best meals of the trip have been prepared riverside in the Jetboil.

We took a trip down to the Tetons a few days ago hoping to film the Snake.  Filming was nixed due to valley smoke from the Bull Fire in the Bridger-Teton Wilderness so we had a few hours to mosey around.  Strange to be back in my old stomping grounds after twelve years.  Jackson certainly has grown up, but the good old river spots are still there.  We managed to spend some time at the Dead Man’s Bar takeout… hands down my favorite river spot as a kid.  They paved the steep parts of the access road, but the river access looks the same.  It’s comforting to know some things don’t change.
