Taking It As It Comes

by Editor on September 15, 2010

It’s the end of a busy day working on the Madison.  Just uploading pictures now; so far stills look promising and the videography should be classic.  Though the rest of the week looks iffy for weather we were lucky today and had a mostly sunny day with good hatches of black caddis and small blue-winged olives.

Got chased off the upper Madison by a grizzly (luckily it was towards the end of filming) and watched a hawk catch a pretty damned nice trout.  During the last shoot of the day at Palisades, Jake hooked onto a nice brown.  Dusk was falling and it was difficult to see, but the brown made a final run that ended in a broken rod and an unhappy Jake.  His six-weight Sage is no more.

Plans are unsure for the next four days.  We’re trying to plot around the weather and pare down our shooting to priorities.  I’ve come down with a bear of a stomach flu and was up much of last night with food poisoning… when I get sick, apparently I go full-tilt.

When you’re on assignment and working in the field you take what you can get.  Often things don’t go as planned.  At any rate, I’m looking forward to what the coming days hold.  Thus far all the camera gear is performing admirably and holding up well to rough conditions.  Bring on the river!
