Working my way through downtown Austin I was trailed and triangulated by three guys. My spidey-sense was acting up and I got the hell out of there and ran for the nearest cop. As it turned out they were looking for the guys from a rape earlier in the night.

My team happens to be all female and we’ve never had a worse experience at a conference than this year’s meeting. Groping, pissing, drunk and dirty men wandering all over the place at the music venues with crowd management that could have been done better by a Somali pirate. After a close call with a group of young ‘ethnic’ men one night we never went anywhere after dark unless we were all together.

And I wholeheartedly agree that crowd management was atrocious… I had to sprint over a block to find a cop. Never have I ever seen such a poorly-managed event from a safety perspective. I made it back to my car on an adrenaline high and minus half a can of self-defense spray.
